Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) plays an important role in maintaining electrical safety in workplaces, schools, rented properties and many other environments. Our practical PAT Testing courses are designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to carry out inspections, testing and record keeping safely and competently.

Whether you’re completely new to PAT Testing or looking to refresh your skills, every course is personally delivered by Tim James, who has been involved in PAT Testing since 1986 and teaching the subject since 1993. You’ll learn using real appliances and test equipment in a practical, hands-on environment.

Unlike many training providers, our courses focus on practical competence rather than simply passing a written examination. You’ll learn how to perform visual inspections, carry out electrical tests, understand the relevant regulations and make informed decisions about appliance safety.

With small class sizes, over 30 years of teaching experience and ongoing support after the course, PAT Testing Expert has helped thousands of delegates from businesses, schools, local authorities, landlords and electrical contractors across the UK develop a valuable and practical skill.

Although we deliver PAT Testing courses throughout the UK, this page focuses on our Scottish training venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Delegates regularly attend from Aberdeen, Dundee, Inverness, Perth, Stirling, Fife, Ayrshire and the Scottish Borders to gain practical PAT Testing skills in a friendly and professional learning environment.

Every course is personally delivered by Tim James, who has been involved in PAT Testing since 1986, teaching since 1993, and was one of the contributors to the latest IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment.
